Here are the instructions. There are two phases: installing the KClient, and then setting up the shortcut. If you are a Lumber employee, please see the note at the bottom.
Downloading and installing the KClient Services application:
- Click the link at the bottom of this page to download the KClient installation file, and download the file.
- Depending on your browser, the file might automatically download to a small button that shows up at the bottom of your browser, or it might ask you to select a location to save it to.
- Once the download is complete, run the KClient installation file.
- If the download went to a button at the bottom of the browser, just single-click on it. If it made you select a download location, open that folder and double-click on the file to run it.
- The installation will begin, and depending on your operating system, and security permissions, might ask different things, but basically select “Yes” or “Next” to everything. All the default options are correct. When the installation is complete, click Finish and the install window will disappear.
- Please note, there are TWO K8 systems, PROD and TEST. PROD is the live, production system, which is where we conduct real business. TEST is a testing and training system, and should only be used for those purposes.
Setting up the K8 TEST environment desktop shortcut:
- Right-click in a blank area of your computer desktop, roll down to New, and then click KCML Client. (if that option is not available, right-click on the desktop, click Refresh, and then the KCML option should become available)
- Click Next.
- “Connect to a remote server” should be selected. Click Next.
- Fill in the following:
- Server: mc-k8-01:791
- Service Name: TEST
- Service Port: 791
- Click Next.
- “User and password” should be selected. Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Change the Connection Name to: K8 TEST.
- Click Finish.
Setting up the K8 PROD environment desktop shortcut:
- Right-click in a blank area of your computer desktop, roll down to New, and then click KCML Client. (if that option is not available, right-click on the desktop, click Refresh, and then the KCML option should become available)
- Click Next.
- “Connect to a remote server” should be selected. Click Next.
- Fill in the following:
- Server: mc-k8-01
- Service Name: PROD
- Click Next.
- “User and password” should be selected. Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Change the Connection Name to: K8 PROD.
- Click Finish.
You’re all done! You should see two new icons on your desktop called “K8 TEST” and "K8 PROD". Double-click the desired icon to run K8, and log in with the credentials that you receive from the IT Department or from your manager.
* Lumber Users – As you know, unless you’re at the corporate office, ECS Pro is only accessible via the ECS Pro remote terminal server. K8 however, will run from pretty much any computer on our network, from any location. So, when installing K8 at this time, please install it on your local PC desktop, not from inside the ECS Pro remote. We will be installing K8 on the remote in due time, but for the purposes of your training and early usage of the training environment, please just install it to your local desktop. If you have any questions about what that means, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
